Sending Warm Wishes

I'm not sure if everyone has rec'd the e-mail giving this information, but I think it's a wonderful idea and wanted to share:

When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.

It's Snowing

I came home from work early yesterday and didn't go in today. I have sinus and ear infections -ugh. At least it's this week and not next week (Thanksgiving).

I just got back from the pharmacy and guess what?!! It's snowing!! Talk about getting in the spirit of Christmas. I tried to take a picture of the flurries, but the only thing I'm getting is the dark sky. I don't think it'll last, but it is so magical.

The couch and afghan are calling my name!

Cards are Finished

I finally finished making our cards. I wasn't sure if I really liked them, but in the end, I guess that they are growing on me. I used several different patterns of paper for the background, and the card stock and ribbon combination aren't your traditional Christmas colors, but I think that they work well together. The inside shows the house image and the "from our house to yours" saying.

So, now that the envelopes are all addressed (aren't the return address labels cute...very vintage), the only thing left to do is write the personalized message in the cards.

By the way if you are looking for a new pie recipe to try for Thanksgiving check out what I made for Adam's birthday. http://traditionalturkey.blogspot.com/ The crust looks a little dark, but it's just the photos. It was wonderful!

It's Coming

I can hardly contain myself, Thanksgiving is 2 weeks away and the next day we get our Christmas Tree!

We are fortunate, in that just 10minutes away is the ultimate Christmas Tree adventure. A local tree farm (Varner's Tree Farm) offers horse drawn wagon rides through their farm taking you to fields of evergreen trees They have Blue Spruce, Frasier Fir, Douglass Fir, White Pine, you name it. The smell is heavenly. I think the Yankee Candle company comes fairly close with their balsam and pine scented candle (I bought one this past weekend). They also sell pre-cut and balled trees, but who wouldn't want to do the wagon ride?

The horses look like Clydesdale's all decked out with huge jingle bells and the wagons are strewn with straw for you to sit on. The ride lasts about 5-10 minutes and on occasion we've even seen deer in the fields. Sometimes it'll even snow, adding to the ambiance.

Everyone gets to choose and cut their tree (price is per foot, per type of tree). Then we go back via a wagon. They sell stand straight tree stands. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? This has to be the best tree stand ever!! It's basically a bowl that has a removable square flat metal piece inside with legs that extend over the edge of the bowl. But, the secret weapon is the peg (approximately 6inches long) that sticks up from the metal piece. The tree farm drills a straight hole through the center of the trunk, straight up through the middle. When you get the tree home you just add water to the bowl, add the metal stand and put the tree down over the metal peg. No tying the tree to the wall so that it doesn't fall over, no fighting, just plop it on and it's straight - EVERY SINGLE TIME. It's awesome!!

Anyway, while they are drilling our tree, we get a free cup of hot cocoa or cider. Then, we walk through the Christmas Barn. It's chock full of ornaments, decorations, fresh apples and cider too. The also sell greens, wreaths and old fashioned toy candy.

I think that I might start burning that candle I bought. Mmm...

Christmas Fun

After shopping all day yesterday, I had to catch-up on some laundry, so what's a girl to do but throw in a Christmas DVD to watch while folding the mountain of clean smelling goodness.
I watched Holiday Inn (not necessarily Christmas), but Bing singing White Christmas is awesome!

I plan an catching up on my scrapbooks this week. Keep your fingers crossed.

Christmas Ornament

I had some fun making a quick Christmas ornament this week.

One of my friends from my stamp club gave me the glass ball. The club used red crinkled shred to fill their balls and placed rub-ons on the outside.

I wanted to do something different, so I stamped a vintage image on cream colored stock using brown ink. Then I punched a hole with a micro punch and threaded cream ribbon through it. I then rolled the image around tweezers and put the image in the ball. I used the tweezers to unroll the image. I added brown rub-on snowflakes to the outside. Then, I embellished the top with cream and brown ribbons and added a vintage pin. I love it!

Amaryllis Week 1

I thought you might like to see my amaryllis as the grow/bloom. This is week one.
