What makes a Happy Home? I love to take care of my family. For me, creating a home that is warm and inviting, where everyone feels welcome is pure joy! The smell of fresh laundry just in off the clothesline, a neat and tidy home and garden, a good home cooked meal, a few desserts here and there, the love of family, friends and fellowship all help to make our home a Happy Home. Join me as we celebrate the holidays, the birthdays and the every days!

Since it's Rudolph Day

Today, March 25th is Rudolph Day and it just so happens that it is also Paper Crafting Wednesday. So in honor of both, I'm sharing a few scrapbook pages that are from Christmases past and I've also included a few Easter pages as well. Just so you know I give all holidays equal billing:)

Welcome Peter Rabbit

and anyone else who wants to hop in for a visit...

Isn't this little bunny sweet? She's made from a vintage bedspread and is sporting a patchwork apron. I've had her years, sometimes she's on the front door heralding visitors to enter, and sometimes she's in the living room or kitchen. Wherever she is, she always brings a smile.

Thanks for hopping by!

March Rudolph Day Plans

I know, I know yesterday was the first day of Spring, and here I am talking about Christmas, but it's in my blood I'll tell you... Do you realize that there are only 9 more Rudolph days (including March) until Christmas? Now don't panic! Rudolph Day is celebrated on the 25th of each month.

A few of my vintage tree toppers

It's the day when I and believe it or not, a lot of other (perfectly sane people) plan and get ready for Christmas. Someone left me a sweet comment when visiting my blog the other day~ they called me a keeper of Christmas and I loved it. That's me a keeper of Christmas. I love the planning, the anticipation, the gift giving, celebrating the greatest gift of all, the time spent with family and friends, the cooking and baking, the decorating, the traditions...OK I'm rambling. Next Wednesday March 25th you'll find me updating my Christmas notebook

I'll also:
  • revise my master gift list and write 2 gift ideas beside each name
  • play around with a few Christmas Card designs
  • be adding a few new recipes to my Christmas recipe book
  • watch White Christmas, it's this months Rudolph Day movie pick
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Christmas Red

Welcome and Happy Spring everyone!

This was my favorite Christmas present from Mr. Claus last year. That Santa sure does know me (wink wink)! It's a 9 1/2 quart Le Crueset French Oven in my favorite color - RED! It's going to be family heirloom (knowing just how much he paid for it!) for generations to come. The week after Christmas, I used it 3 times. And have been using it at least 1 time per week ever since.

It's great for simmering soups on the back of the stove ... all day long. It's also is terrific for roasting things in the oven low and slow ~ right Bucky:) I made a wonderful brisket on Sunday that was so tender, you didn't even need a knife to eat it.

Be sure to visit Kelli at http://kellishouse.blogspot.com to see what she and other's are sharing today. And don't forget next Wednesday, March 25th is Rudolph Day - remember to do something Christmassy. I'll be posting my plans for this important day on Saturday, so be sure to check back then. Thanks for stopping by!

March Rudolph Book & Movie Club

I wanted to post Magical Holiday Home's March Rudolph Day book and movie picks earlier, but forgot. For those of you interested, this months movie is White Christmas. One of my favorites!

The alternate kid pick is Disney's All Snowed in in the House of Mouse

And, this month's book is "Shall I Knit you a Hat?" By Kate Klise

Chasing the Dream

How many of you are working moms and wives trying to get it all done in the mere 24hrs that we have each day? How do we take care of our families, our homes, our jobs and last, but certainly not least ourselves?

Last Night's Supper

I always tell people that I should have been a mother in the 1940-50's. I dream of the days when most wives/mothers were afforded the luxury of staying home with their children. I envy those women who spent their days taking care of their family, their homes, hanging laundry on the line to dry and especially those who were able to create mouth watering meals and desserts from scratch on a daily basis.

Chicken Pot Pie with Cream Biscuit Topping

So, in my own true fashion, I am always trying to catch that dream.

Curtains blowing in the breeze...

Have a wonderful day!

Show and Tell

This Welsh love spoon is one of my prized possessions. Our son Adam went to Wales with Jade and her family 2years ago this past Christmas. It was the first Christmas that he didn't spend with us and although I knew that it was eventually going to happen, I didn't realize how it would really bother me. Christmas is my favorite holiday (as many people who know me can attest too), but I was convinced that I could handle his going away. He had this wonderful opportunity to spend 2 weeks in Wales for free and with Jade and her entire family. But, when he wasn't here on Christmas morning, I felt soo sad.

When they came back, he gave me this Welsh Love Spoon. He told us the story of how they
are traditionally made from a single piece of wood by young men, as a love token for their sweethearts, to show their affection and marital intentions.

Have a wonderful weekend!.

Can you believe that I found this darling Matrishka (nesting doll) and these wonderful hand-painted Easter eggs at our local thrift store? Total cost $5. I've been making my rounds on Fridays during my lunch break, with a $10 budget. Fun! Fun! Fun!

The Three S's

The Nor'easter came barreling through our neck of the woods Monday morning, leaving us with about 8 inches of SNOW. And, these 2 sweet turtle doves landed in our pear tree (how funny is that - sounds kinda familiar - although the words aren't in order!).

Whenever it snows, there's always some kind of SOUP bubbling on the back of my stove. Monday I made beef vegetable.

Last, but not least, I couldn't resist taking a photo of these bright red STRAWBERRIES. The sunlight streaming in through the kitchen window was so bright, it almost made them glow. How pretty do they look in my yellow ware bowl? They were buy a quart, get a quart free and sooo sweet.

Have a great day!

Weekend Warriors

DH and I went to Ocean City, Maryland this weekend to look at condos to rent for vacation. What we didn't know was that there was a cheerleading tournament being held there this weekend!! There were young girls screaming and carrying on everywhere and I mean everywhere we went. Now, don't get me wrong, I was a cheerleader, Captain in fact, but these girls were very ill mannered.

In the end, we found a place to rent for our week (Ocean block with a pool), so it was worth it. It was also great to get away for the weekend with the love of my life, that man can still make my heart skip a beat!
