Pink Leftovers

I bought a huge bouquet of hot-pink carnations at Costco last Saturday. Their prices are amazing and the flowers last for at least 2 weeks. After filling my large green depression glass vase, I had a few stems left over. Looking around my kitchen, my eagle eye landed on my collection of vintage bottles.

I'm sharing my Pink Leftovers in honor of Pink Saturday. Pink Saturday is hosted by Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Please be sure to visit Beverly and all of the other's who are showing their pink treasures!

I hope that you enjoyed visiting The Old Parsonage. Please leave a comment so that I can return the visit.

Come back again!

Go Bananas

Every week I buy bananas. They are a staple on my list. However the warmer it gets, the quicker the bananas ripen. It's rare that we have bananas that get to this stage. But when they do, what a girl to do?

Why, turn them into banana bread of course! And I found a recipe for the most delicious and moist bread there is.
  • 1/2 c Crisco
  • 1c Sugar
  • 2 c Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 3-4 Bananas Mashed
  • 1/2 Buttermilk or Sour Milk
  • 1/2 cup Crushed Walnuts (optional)

Preheat the oven to 350. Cream Crisco and Sugar. Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into a well greased pan. Sprinkle the top with sugar.
Bake for 40-45 minutes.

Enjoy with a hot cup of coffee!!

It's here!

I can't believe that it's Rudolph Day again! I've gathered a number of wonderful new recipes to add to my holiday recipe book. This is a sampling of the goodies that I made last year.

Nut Rolls, Chocolate Covered Pretzels, Cinnamon Chocolate Covered Almonds, Thumbprint Cookies, Kolacky, Spritz, Peanut Brittle, Macaroons, Chocolate Krinkles, and lots more.

I also made a great antipasti for Christmas Eve. The only problem with this was it was so big that the only tray I had was plastic. So, after the entire thing was assembled and I picked it up to wrap in plastic wrap the tray cracked and it started to go everywhere. I saved it by putting it all on a cookie tray!

I think that half the fun of the holidays is in the planning. Do any of you plan ahead for the holidays?

This month's Rudolph Day Movie picks are Elf or Rudolph and the book is The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans. I'll probably watch Elf after DH goes to bed.

Don't forget to do something Christmassy today, you'll be glad that you did!

The Stockings were Hung by the Chimney with Care

A few posts ago I asked you to guess what fellow blogger I had breakfast with. It was Cathi from A Quilter's Christmas and Shakerwood Primitives. She and I connected through a Christmas Blog Ring, last year. We soon found out that I live about 15 minutes from her best friend. When Cathi planned a trip (the Pilgrimage) and decided to stop and visit Judi, we knew that we had to meet.

I'm in the red and that's Cathi in white. Hmm...the colors of a Candy Cane:)

This was the same weekend that Adam moved out. So after playing phone tag all weekend, we decided to meet Monday am before I had to go to work and she left for home. Now, Bryan really chastised me for meeting someone from the internet, so I asked Linda to have breakfast with us. I did tell DH that I was meeting someone for breakfast, but not how I knew her (he wouldn't be too happy). Although I must confess, I didn't think twice about it when she asked me. Now if it were one of the boys doing this, I probably would've flipped. But, I felt this instant kinship with Cathi.

Cathi surprised me with this sweet stocking! Isn't it great? And best of all, she made it herself. I adore it!! Stop by for a visit and you'll be amazed at how talented she is. Thanks again Cathi, I treasure your gift and your friendship!

Eveything Old is New again!

You all know how much I love to go to tag sales, flea markets and antique shops. Taking a leisurely Saturday drive and going any which way the wind blows is my idea of pure fun. And, what makes it even better is DH loves the thrill of the hunt too!

A few weeks ago we set out for Jake's Flea Market (Route 100) in Barto, PA. The number of vendors set-up was the most that I had ever seen, it took us 2 hrs to visit everyone. The weather was perfect, not too hot and there was a breeze.

I almost walked by these two beauties. The ceramic base is off-white, and for $10... I had the perfect spot for them in mind!

Now you know, that you always take your chances when you buy anything electronic second hand, but they work perfectly. I took the harp off the one and bought these sweet pink shades at Target over the weekend for $7 each. I'm in love I tell you!!!
No, this isn't the perfect spot, that should be ready in about 1 week. They are for our newly renovated guest room/craft studio. Can't wait to share those photos when I have it all together.

Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to stop by Beverly's to see what she has going on for Pink Saturday. You'll be inspired by what everyone else is sharing too.

Enjoy your day!

Breathe deep

The scent of these pale pink roses is filling the air!
Sorry that the photos are soo dark, but it has been overcast and/or raining every time I decide to take a photo.

I just had to cut a vase full of roses, peonies and lambs ear to brighten the living room.

While I was arranging the flowers one of the peonies broke off...

I love how it looks in this pink depression glass dish. This is another treasure form my Gram. Not sure what it's original intent was, but I typically use it for candy. Does anyone know what it was made for?

Don't forget to visit Kelli for Show and Tell Friday and Beverly and the other wonderful blogs who are celebrating Pink Saturday!!

Flea Market Finds and a Question

This weekend was a blur. We finished moving Adam and Jade into their apartment (although his room still has a lot of keepsakes that need to be boxed up and taken to the attic). I've decided to turn the room into a guest bedroom/craft studio. So, tonight I spend about 2hrs in there cleaning and moving furniture around. I want to paint all the furniture white, so it may take me awhile to get it into ship-shape.

There wasn't anytime to go to flea markets or yard sales this weekend, but I did manage to upload photo's of some things I got Memorial day weekend. I got the planter for $1 it's made of resin, so it's really light.

The tea light candle holders were free! Who could pass those up?

I had the cherubs, but got the books for $1 ea. The hydrangea's are the ones that I cut and dried while we were on vacation last year.

The linen napkins were 10 for $4 AND the price tags were still on some of them!!! The last yard sale had a bunch of old cutlery in a tin .50ea. Not knowing what I would do with them, I just had to have these 2 knives. They are a bit rusty, but I love how they look next to the napkins.

You'll never guess who I had breakfast with this morning?!! I'll give you a few hints: she's a fellow blogger, keeper of Christmas and quilter extraordinaire!

Go ahead, guess!!

BTW - Did you see the countdown banner today!!! It's exactly 200 days 'til Christmas!!!

Perfectly Pink

Sorry this is a little late. The tulips are actually pink, but they look purple in the photo. And, this is one of my favorite vases a Hull Vase that was my Nan's.

Thanks for visiting, I'll be stopping by your blog for a visit at some point this weekend, we have a lot going on with helping Adam and Jade to move.

Happy Pink Saturday!
