Flowering Cherry Trees. Friend or Foe?

We have 5 flowering Cherry Trees that line our driveway. They are so gorgeous while they are blooming. I've even done posts on Pink Saturday about them. But, when the flowers start to drop from the trees - look out! Our driveway and cars turn into a complete pink mess. The cars become covered in them so much so that it looks like we've been in a wedding.

We try to get them off the driveway as quick as possible, because once you drive over them they get even stickier. They get tracked into the house for about 2 weeks. It's always a mess. Next year I may do a before, during and after post. How's that for scintillating content?

Enjoy your day my friends!

Never had considered that there was a downside to such beautiful trees. Hope that you make it through relatively unscathed. (Once it began tracking into the house, I'd be having trouble with it.) How do you clear the drive? Sweep or leafblower?

Hmmmmmmmmmm... This is a useful post. I love the look of flowering fruit trees but we don't have any. Now I will not have any "flowering tree envy" either! :-)

Hi Leann...Loved your photos. Yeah, I can imagine that the sticky cherry blossoms would not look good being tracked all through the house. Gosh. That's a perplexing one. At least while they are on the trees, enjoy them! ha! Susan

Ours do the same thing. YUCK! But they're beautiful while in bloom...

I take the blossoms anytime. At least you got pretty flowers as droppings. Try green and later orange pollen on everything for about month. God forbid you got allergies, then you look like you have the flu for weeks. I have a screen porch and the screens are green and dusty right know. It had not rain in Central Texas for months so I never saw the green grass and the wild flowers in the back acreage, yet I love everything about this nature God so perfectly created for us to enjoy. Can we swap? Cherry blossoms for green pollen. Blessings,Marta.

HI Leann, love this. We just got cherry trees and some pear trees to line our driveway. I know it will be next year before they bloom but I can't wait. What a great post my dear. And I read your Mother's day post...very sweet.
blessings,
Debbie

I have a cherry tree that is only four, but we got our first taste of the Spring blooms this year. You are so blessed to have so many! They are absolutely beautiful, even if they do make a mess! :D

I know what you mean. We have a huge Bradford Pear in our front yard that has lovely white blooms each Spring. It loses them pretty quick, but looks like it is snowing as they fall!

I love flowering cherry trees!!!
