What a little paint can do

OK. What did you think you were looking at in the first photo at a quick glance? Did you say Army men? That's what I saw...they are Army green and look like they are holding a gun. Am I right?

My boss was cleaning out her Christmas decorations and brought the ones that she didn't want to work.  I the saw these three little guys and their potential for Valentine's Day decorations. I really didn't like the green patina, so the first thing that I did was throw a quick coat of vanilla craft paint on them.

I didn't really care about the coverage since I knew that I was going to add several other coats of paint, ink and glitter. After the vanilla paint I watered down some espresso craft paint and got it into all the nooks and crannies then wiped it off. It gave them a vintage feel.

Then because they will eventually go on the white feather tree in the dining room I added silver ink on the raised places like their faces, the instruments, etc.

I thought that their banners needed sentiments. Writing on them was a bit difficult. I used several different pens before I found one that worked. The last thing that I did was add Diamond Stickles to their wings for a bit of glitter and glam. Tomorrow when they are completely dry I'll add red ribbon as hangers and put them on the tree.

I stopped at our local thrift store on my lunch break. What a mob scene - people can be soo rude. They were acting like I was going to get something before them and were not too happy about it. Jeez! Needless to say I left almost immediately.

I'm still on a mission to get Mr OP's 50 gifts for his "Countdown to 50." I'm also sending out 50 shipping tags to family and friends. I'd like them to write a funny memory or two and send them to me (at work). Then I'll take the tags and make them into a book. I'd just have to make a cover and back then add a jump ring and it's a book! How easy is that?!

Does anyone else have any ideas for the big 5-0?

Great makeover! They were a bit green weren't they! I have a cherub waiting to be painted as we speak. She's kind of a beige/peach color I'm not too fond of. Hope you're having a terrific week!

Nice redo on the cherubs. Sorry - No ideas on the 50th. Sounds like you are come up with some great ideas. I like the tag idea.
Yes - I am glad it was not oil also. :)
